Two Final Project Ideas

1) I would like to make a website for my grandmothers ceramics. The site would be either to showcase her work and/or to sell. This is something that has been in the works for a while now. After going through these years of college, web design is my career choice. I want to learn more about web design and sharpen my skills (especially with WordPress). The more I build, whether it is for profit or not, the more I will learn and become more efficient. Doing this project will also help me with client relations. Yes, she IS my grandmother but she is a tough cookie. She knows what she wants and how she wants things. I would have to be on a strict schedule and focus on time management since she lives in Maryland. Managing school, work and some visits to Maryland is going to be a challenge but why not learn to operate under these pressures now so later on in the “real world” it would not be overwhelming.  I think this project would be successful when other people besides the family can enjoy her work. She wants to share her work with the world. The true success would be, if she wishes to sell, the first purchase.

2) I also want to make a site for my jewelry. I always thought of selling on Ebay or Amazon but did not like to idea of cutting them a big piece of my profit. I end up giving pieces away to friends or family. I think it is time to sell now. I think selling will force me to make pieces for often. I would create items in spurts. I think I do it in spurts because it is just for a hobby and not a profit. If I know these pieces would be for profit I would be encouraged to make more. This project will allow me to sharpen my jewelry making skills and my web design skills. Time management will be a big key in this project. Between building the site, other school work, work, getting material, deciding on collections and trends and making pieces, I am going to have to be on a serious schedule. This will help me in the long run to learn how to deal with stress, time management, and the ability to push myself and stay on top of things. The success of this project would be the end result when the site is up and I have amble amount of product to sell because I put in the dedication it took to make it happen. Knowing that I did this basically all by myself is a success in itself.

This project means a lot to me. It helped me realize what kind of direction I wanted to take my career. I was really lost as to what field of work I was interested in. I never focused soo much on one project. This was the first time in a long time what I could work on something for hours and did not mind or realize the time passing. I love to be creative and never saw it as more then a hobby. This video kind of shows my personality. It shows off my skills, since I did everything from shooting, to transcribing, to editing. You can tell I love fashion, have a unique group of friends, and take my work seriously.  Even though I prefer post and are in a concentration of graphic design now, this project was a real eye opener.

2)

Name Plate

I had to take a font and replicate it by hand with my name. The top is printed from the computer and the bottom is the hand sketched replica I did.  As soon as I saw this font I knew it was what I wanted to replicate. It is fun but yet formal at the same time. You can see the human personality in the font. It reminded me of myself. I have a bubbly personality but when it is time to be serious I am. Also certain aspects of the font reminded me of how I use to write in high school. For example, I use to make the big circles over my “I” just as the Juice font does. I felt that this font would be a challenge but yet still in my comfort zone. Over all I loved this assignment. At first I honestly did not think I would be able to recreate any font. I surprised myself. Now I know that even if I do not think I am capable of something, it does not hurt to try. You might just continue to surprise yourself.

3)

I enjoyed working on this project. I had to create a creature and their habitat. It shows my Photoshop skills and my ability to take anything and create something unique. My interpretation of design is to show that you are in control of your world. You control the good and bad. Also that you are who ever or whatever you make yourself to be. I like the fact that I do not have to write out or say my thoughts or feeling. I can create them. I think it helps others understand me better. Allows them come up with their own interpretations and give me real feedback. I believe people are more honest with art then anything else. They can say exactly why they do or do not like something.

I have a thing for abstract art. It entices my eccentric side, which is probably my normal side but in denial. Anyways, I wanted to make my own piece of abstract art work. Played around with a couple of things (just know I was REALLLLLLLY focused when I was doing it, LOL) and this is what I came up with. Oh and the beads at the bottom are turquoise beads my grandma gave me and some black beads that I had.

I call this “Women’s Strength.” I was looking through this catalog that I get in the mail. I have no idea why I get it because I did not subscribe to it. But it has cute stuff in it so I always look though it (never buy anything). I loved these two painting I saw (which are the two focus points in my poster) and decided to kind of make my own poster. Clipped a bunch of stuff out the catalog and got to work. I had no idea what I was doing but at the same time I did. I knew I had some clue of what I was making because at the end I knew exactly what to call it.

This is part one of my Letter form Abstraction project. I had to create compositions using a single letter form. Then isolate enough of each letter to hint at its identity while creating a balance between positive and negative space. Sketch 25 thumbnail samples and choose my 10 best for the finished product. I do not know which 10 to choose.
